AS A SENIOR: Becomes the first three-time captain in the history of the Notre Dame men’s soccer program • enjoyed productive junior season and will look to continue high level of play this season • a true team leader who is greatly respected by his teammates • moved to central midfielder last year and adjusted well to new his new position • plays with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm • versatile player at both ends of the field • can play the ball with both feet • has a great physical and mental toughness.

AS A JUNIOR: One of 10 players who started all 21 games • fourth-leading scorer on the team with six goals and one assist (13 points) • had his third game-winning goal of the season in 1-0 victory over Loyola with his score at the 78:32 mark of the contest off an assist from Kevin Goldthwaite • credited with the assist on the first of Rafael Garcia’s two goals in NCAA tournament first-round win over Akron at the 14:39 mark of the contest • registered the first two-goal game of his career when he scored the Irish’s first two goals in 3-1 victory over No. 5 Connecticut • netted the first goal at the 46:49 mark of the contest on a penalty kick and tallied his second score of the game at 53:41 when he picked up a loose ball in front of the goal • scored the game-winning goal in 2-1 double overtime victory over #7 Furman at the 107:29 mark off assists from Chad Riley and Rafael Garcia • scored the game-tying goal at the 85:46 mark in eventual 3-2 loss to Georgetown • tallied one of Notre Dame’s three goals in 3-2 season-opening win against Southwest Missouri State • his score off an assist from Chad Riley gave the Irish a 2-1 lead in 12:29 into the second half • named the BIG EAST’s co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 21 • selected to the all-tournament team at the Diadora Challenge.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Started nine of the 13 games he played in during the 2001 campaign • tallied one goal and dished off one assist • recorded the first points of his career and his first-ever multiple-point game when he had a goal and an assist in the season-opening win over Villanova • tallied Notre Dame’s second goal of the game off assists from Kevin Richards and Justin Detter at the 56:25 mark of the contest giving the Irish a 2-0 advantage and then dished off an assist to Matt Rosso on the final score with 12 minutes to play. • named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career (week of Sept. 3) for his performance against the Wildcats • first men’s soccer player in Notre Dame history to serve as a captain during his sophomore season.

AS A FRESHMAN: One of three freshmen who played in all 17 games • earned 16 starts during his rookie season • was one of three freshmen in the starting lineup against New Mexico in the season opener • started the first 11 games of the season.

HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL DATA: Earned Parade All-America honors in both 1999 and 2000 • three-year national team member and trained at the Bradenton (Fla.) Academy for two years • part-time starter on the Under-17 FIFA World Cup team which lost in the semifinals of the Youth World Championships in New Zealand in November of ’99 • named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America teams in both 1999 and 2000 • as a senior, led his high school squad to state championship with clutch scoring performances that included two two-goal games • team earned No. 3 national ranking in 1999-2000 • played in the Texas All-Star Game for seniors • a three-time all-conference and two-time all-city selection • named all-conference three times and all-city twice • a member of the Dallas Comets club team for four years • served as that team’s co-captain for two years and led the squad to a fourth-place finish at national tournament in 1998 • named to the 2002-03 BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team while earning Dean’s List distinction during both the fall and spring semesters • born Jan. 5, 1982 • son of Greg and Susan Martin • enrolled as a history major in the College of Arts and Letters.
